Dental Implants Sydney

If you have lost one or more permanent teeth to an injury or periodontal disease, there are several teeth replacement options that you can consider. In the past, the choices were more limited – basically, you could either go with a denture or bridge. Thanks to vast improvements in dental technology and sciences, dental implants have emerged as one of the most advanced and innovative solutions for treating tooth loss. Call us on (02) 9232 3900 to discuss your treatment options.

Today, many people who used to live with wobbly dentures or bridges to replace their missing teeth have found dental implants a life changing experience! That’s because dental implants are a true teeth replacement option in that they feel and function like real teeth.

They make a great alternative to removable dentures, which have been known to interfere with a patient’s social lifestyle or oral hygiene habits. With dental implants, you can eat, drink, brush, floss and basically perform whatever function you used to with your own natural teeth. They are more secure and longer lasting. No longer do you fear that they might slip off because unlike removable dentures, they are permanently bonded to your jaw. With adequate care and dental hygiene, dental implants can last for many years.

At Sydney CBD Dental, we know that deciding on a dental implant treatment involves asking many questions – and we hope to answer them for you. Although we provide a range of dental implant options, we first to want to hear from you about your reasons for considering the treatment. Dental implants with the Sydney CBD Dental advantage

The experience of a dentist performing the dental implant treatment is naturally held in higher esteem due to the surgical and often complex nature of the treatment. When it comes to dental implants, getting the treatment done right the first time is of paramount importance. Experience plays a significant role in making sure that any mistakes are duly pre-empted and avoided at all costs. Patients should not be made to bear the agony and inflated costs of unnecessary visits.

Benefits of Dental Implants

Dental implants are essentially small titanium posts that are surgically placed into the patient’s jaw so that they act as artificial roots. The “root-like” posts provide a solid supporting structure to hold the replacement tooth or implant-supported bridge firmly in place.

This advanced innovation delivers many benefits to the edentulous (lacking teeth) patient. The following provides compelling reasons as to why you should consider dental implants as a highly effective and reliable teeth replacement option:

  • #1: Dental Implants feel and function like your natural teeth

Unlike wobbly dentures or bridges (that depend on one’s neighbouring teeth for anchorage), dental implants are permanently lodged into the existing bone structure of the patient. This provides unprecedented stability for the replacement teeth – allowing them to feel and function like your natural teeth.

Since dental implants replace the missing teeth deep into the roots, they are also extremely secure. You never have to be worried if they might slip off – unlike dentures that have long been the stuff of embarrassing nightmarish scenarios!

  • #2: Dental Implants last a longer time

Not only do they offer a permanent foundation for your prosthetic teeth, they also tend to outlast the competition. If proper care and dental hygiene is maintained, dental implants have been known to last a lifetime. Although it may be a costlier alternative, the longevity of dental implants needs to be factored into your consideration as it would represent cost savings in the long run.

  • #3: Dental Implants look like real teeth!

Thanks to advances in dental material sciences, the prosthetic teeth can accurately mimic the shape, size and colour of your natural teeth, allowing them to blend seamlessly with the rest of your pearly whites! In the hands of a good implant dentist and prosthetist, dental implants are completely undetected in a person’s mouth. What this gives you is a natural and aesthetic smile that you’ll be proud to show everyone!

  • #4: Dental Implants are reliable and safe

According to the Australian Dental Association (ADA), dental implants have a success rate of 90-98%. That means the chance of achieving positive results from your implant treatment are fairly high. In fact, as newer and better systems continue to raise the bar of dental implant technology and widen its clinical scope, the predictability of dental implants would continue to rise in tandem. The success rates support dental implants as a safe and reliable treatment for edentulous patients.

  • #5: Dental Implants prevent bone loss

When you are missing a tooth, the bone that was once supporting that tooth will start to deteriorate. That is why it is important to replace the tooth root of a missing tooth so that it will help to stimulate and preserve the supporting bone. When the dental implant bonds with the bone, the implants will “take over” the functions previously performed by the natural tooth root – thereby helping to prevent bone loss.

Another benefit that dental implants have on the bones lies in the manner in which they are directly placed into the bone. The surrounding teeth are not damaged or cut in any way during the instalment process. This is a huge positive for dental implant treatment and why dentists recommend it as a long-term investment for both aesthetic and clinically motivated reasons. What to expect for dental implant treatment at our Sydney CBD practice

Every single dental implant case commences with a consultation and oral examination. Based on your exam results and dental records, your dentist will discuss with you all the available options that are best suited to your needs. He will also assess your jaws and bones to make sure that they have enough capacity to accept the dental implants. If you are found to be a suitable candidate, the dentist will tailor a detailed treatment plan for you – at which time your dental implant journey is officially underway.

The treatment plan will include all the important information like the required number of visits, surgical details, recovery and healing times, estimated duration for the whole treatment etc. X-rays will also be taken to ensure that we have established the precise location of your implant placement. This is an important step to prevent the implant from impacting any of the surrounding biological structures.

The dental implant procedure takes place over a two-stage process. The titanium dental implant is first inserted into your gum line, where it will naturally bond with the jaw bone. A temporary replacement crown may be placed over the implant to fill the gap. About 3-6 months later, when the titanium implant has completely bonded with the jaw, the newly fabricated crown, bridge or arch will be placed over the implant. This is the second appointment also known as the fitting procedure.
