After all, who doesn’t want their teeth to look bright and dazzling?

At Sydney CBD Dental, we love to restore the confidence of having bright sparkling teeth to our customers – whoever they may be! We are committed to helping all of you achieve that perfect balance of teeth whiteness and the ability to maintain that brightness over time.

Utilising what we believe to be the most safe, reliable yet result-driven teeth whitening systems around, we offer our patients two choices of brightening their teeth:

Teeth whitening options

You have a choice of two teeth whitening methods at Sydney CBD Dental, depending on your preferences and your price range:

  • In-chair laser teeth whitening carried out by our dentists, or
  • Take-home whitening kits used in the comfort of your own home.

Both types of treatment involve applying a bleaching gel to the teeth. This includes hydrogen peroxide, which is safely formulated at the level needed to help you achieve your desired level of whitening.

Only a qualified dentist is permitted to use high concentrations of peroxide in whitening treatments. These are activated by a UV light to offer faster results compared to whitening at home.

Before you have your teeth whitened, please be advised you will need a separate consultation with our dentist to go over the procedure. More details below on this page.

Although the methods of teeth whitening may differ in terms of treatment duration and results, they are considered to be among the most effective in their respective classes. Both are non-invasive treatments that promise to be highly safe – some would even say relaxing – procedures for the patient.

Prior to actual treatment, our Sydney CBD cosmetic dentists will study your dental history and examine your current teeth conditions before providing a professional assessment of the various teeth whitening options that are suitable for you.

Our Sydney CBD dentists will look into factors such as enamel thickness, receding gums, sensitivities and existing restorations or tooth decay, for indications of whether you are a suitable candidate for teeth whitening. We will also assess and address any underlying causes that contribute to your teeth discolouration.

All this is done to ensure that you will receive optimum care and the best outcomes for the procedure that you choose. Although teeth whitening involves simple and straightforward treatment protocols, results may vary between different systems and treatment options, so a lot hinges on the range of treatment options that your dentist provides.

At Sydney CBD Dental, we employ only the latest professionally dispensed whitening systems and treatment protocols to give you that pristine, long-lasting bright smile that you’ve always wanted! For more information on our whitening treatments, talk to one of our friendly staff today!

1. In-chair laser teeth whitening

Our dentists use the Philips Zoom whitening system, which offers improved patient comfort and fast and consistent results compared to some other whitening systems. We carefully apply strong bleaching gel to the teeth, which is activated by a UV light.

Using Philips Zoom whitening, teeth can be whitened up to 8 shades in a single appointment, with little to no irritation. To help you maintain your new smile, we recommend having a repeat treatment every 2 to 3 years.

2. Take-home whitening kit

If you prefer the convenience of whitening your teeth at home, our dentists can provide you with a take-home kit that's tailored to your individual needs.

We'll take a mould of your teeth to create your custom whitening trays and supply you with the correct formulation of bleaching gel needed to achieve the results you want. When you follow our instructions and use your whitening kit every day, you should normally see noticeable results after 1 to 2 weeks.

Teeth Whitening is Safe and Effective

Women who are lactating or pregnant and children below the age of 13 are not eligible for teeth whitening. Other than these two categories of people, teeth whitening is proven to be a safe and effective procedure in achieving bright and beautiful smiles.

Teeth Whitening Methods

Zoom in-chair whitening vs Take home teeth whitening kit

In-Chair Laser Whitening Treatment (Zoom)

Laser teeth bleaching is one of the most common cosmetic dental procedures done today. The in-chair procedure uses a whitening gel and a focused light to produce the whitening effect. The bleaching gel is applied to both the upper and lower teeth and the light activates the gel to enhance the process. What that equates to is faster and more visible whitening results!

One of the great advantages of laser teeth bleaching is that its effects are fairly long lasting. With proper care of your teeth – like avoiding stain-causing foods and beverages – our tooth bleaching treatments can provide you a brighter smile for years. For optimum and sustained results, we recommend repeating the whitening treatments every two to three years.

With laser whitening, you will also experience a lot less irritation from the whitening gel – if not careful, the active chemical substance may cause slight burning or irritation to the soft tissues in your mouth. Compared to other forms of whitening, in-chair laser whitening treatment causes the least amount of irritation – if at all – as it is less time consuming and is administered by a professional dentist who will exercise appropriate care at all times.

The best benefits have to be the faster and more noticeable results. With our professionally recommended and administered whitening system, it is even possible to achieve up to 8 shades lighter in just one session. That means in less than an hour, which is the standard duration of our whitening system, you can expect a dramatic change to your teeth whiteness that everyone around you will immediately notice.

So if you want the fastest way to achieving a brighter, whiter smile, laser teeth bleaching is for you.

Take-Home Teeth Whitening Kit

A major benefit of purchasing a take-home whitening kit from Sydney CBD Dental is that your treatment is individually tailored. During a consultation, we can design a custom-made bleaching tray that fits precisely and comfortably around your teeth. This gives you greater control of the bleaching agent at home and reduces gum irritation. Secondly, we will supply you with the correct strength of bleaching agent for your teeth. Once your customised kit is complete, you’re ready to whiten your teeth in the comfort and convenience of your own home.

Hydrogen Peroxide Gel

Our professional teeth whitening products use hydrogen peroxide as the main catalyst in the whitening gel. At the chemical reaction stage, this bleaching agent converts into water (HO) and releases an oxygen molecule (O), both of which are safe for everyday use. Unlike household bleaching products that contain ammonia, Hydrogen Peroxide can even be swallowed, if by accident, in small quantities.

Therefore in controlled amounts administered by a professional dentist, the gel is not only a safe-for-use ingredient, it significantly boosts your whitening results in the shortest time possible!

UV Whitening

For our Chairside Teeth Whitening procedures, we utilise the UV light-accelerating whitening technique. Basically, the light in the UV spectrum activates the Hydrogen Peroxide gel to break down the peroxide molecules to speed up the whitening process – without overheating the pulp of the teeth. This greatly reduces the problem of teeth sensitivity while ensuring dramatic whitening results.

Indeed, the fast and effective results are self evident, as with the growing number of clients that support the safety claims. Although some customers may experience slight teeth sensitivity immediately following the procedure, generally speaking, Teeth Whitening is a safe and effective treatment that does not interfere with your lifestyle in any way.

Philips Zoom teeth whitening Sydney

If you're thinking about having your teeth whitened by our professional dentists in Sydney CBD, we'll walk you through the process during your consultation appointment so you know what to expect. You'll also have the opportunity to ask us any questions you have about the treatment, to help you decide if it's the right choice for you.

Laser teeth whitening at Sydney CDB Dental involves 3 steps:

Step 1

Your dentist will professionally clean your teeth to remove any leftover food or other debris from their surface that could affect your results.

Step 2

We'll make sure your mouth and throat are protected during the treatment by fitting a retractor. This also helps to hold your mouth open during the whitening process. We'll also apply a protective coating to your gums and provide you with safety glasses to protect your eyes from UV rays.

Step 3

We can then begin applying the whitening agent to your teeth in stages. After each stage, we'll focus a UV light onto the gel. This causes it to activate and start breaking down stains on the tooth's surface.

This process is usually repeated 3 times over 45 minutes, depending on the individual and how much whitening is needed. You may notice a difference right away, but it can sometimes take a few minutes or hours for your new white smile to fully appear.

What to expect during treatment

Not sure what to expect from the in-chair whitening treatment? Don’t worry. Our professional dentists will walk you through the steps – answering any questions that you may have – at the initial consultation stage.

Patients are required to have a consultation before undertaking the teeth whitening procedure to check the health and suitability of teeth and gums. This initial consult does not cover a comprehensive examination of any dental conditions. It is a consultation appointment where patients can address any concerns or questions in regards to the teeth whitening treatment and related solutions.

Just to give you an idea, let’s briefly go through the steps here:

Teeth whitening FAQs

Step One:

The dentist will clean your teeth to get rid of any food particles that may affect the whitening process.

Step Two:

A retractor would be placed on your mouth for two purposes: Hold your lips away from your teeth and to keep your mouth open during the treatment.

While the former helps to protect your lips from possible damage due to chemical exposure, the main objective of placing the retractor in your mouth is to achieve minimal sensitivity and ensure your optimum comfort throughout the procedure.

Note: As a preventive measure, you will be asked to wear eye protection glasses to guard against the UV rays. Gum coating may also be administered to protect your gums from the chemicals.

Step Three:

The dentist will then apply the whitening gel on your teeth, followed by exposing your gel-coated teeth to a special focused light. The purpose of the light is to activate the gel – a hydrogen-peroxide solution that would penetrate the enamel of the teeth and break down the tough stains that regular cleaning methods cannot remove. The treatment is repeated three times for a total treatment time of about 45 minutes.

That’s it! In just three simple steps, you will be able to achieve stunning whitening results! For some patients, that could represent up to 8 shades lighter! Apart from a tingling sensation – and slight sensitivity for some – patients generally feel no pain during the non-invasive procedure.

For as long as you keep up your brushing and flossing routine, the whiteness can be maintained. However for optimum results, we recommend going for another round every two to three years.

Is teeth whitening safe?

Teeth whitening is considered a safe treatment when it's carried out by or under the guidance of a professional dentist. However, these treatments are not recommended for people under 18 years of age or women who are pregnant or lactating.

As with any dental treatment, there are certain risks and side-effects associated with teeth whitening that patients should be aware of. These include chemical burns, if whitening gel comes into contact with the gums or other soft tissues, and increased sensitivity of the teeth.

These risks can be reduced considerably when you choose in-chair whitening or use a take-home kit and follow your dentist's instructions

Teeth whitening is not a permanent treatment, and you will need to schedule repeat treatments at regular intervals if you want to maintain your white smile. We recommend in-chair whitening every 2–3 years.

You can keep your teeth white for longer by avoiding sources of stains – such as coffee, tea, red wine and tobacco – and following good oral hygiene.

While it's possible to buy whitening toothpastes and strips from stores, the Australian Dental Association (ADA) recommends using a product provided by your dentist.

As well as taking longer to work and producing less reliable results, over-the-counter whitening products also have more risks than treatments used under the guidance of a dental professional.

Teeth whitening is strictly a cosmetic procedure that can be chosen for aesthetic reasons and does not have an impact on your oral health. However, our dentists in Sydney will give you a complete oral health assessment before your treatment to see if there are any issues that should be treated as a priority.

Not everyone has naturally white teeth, and it's possible to have good oral health even if your teeth are darker or have stains. Teeth whitening is a personal choice based on individual preference.

Is teeth whitening suitable for you?

During a consultation, our team will professionally assess your teeth and dental history to determine whether teeth whitening is a suitable option for you. We will look for factors such as enamel thickness, receding gums, sensitivities and existing restorations or tooth decay. We can also assess and address the underlying problems causing your teeth to discolour.

By avoiding the foods and items that stained the teeth in the first place and practicing good oral hygiene through brushing and, your results could last for years. If you are a smoker, coffee, tea or read wine drinker, it may be necessary to touch up the whitening every few years.

Over the counter whitening products can easily be found in the local supermarket or pharmacy and are often low cost and simple to use. However, these whitening products contain a lower concentration of whitening agent (hydrogen peroxide), which means results are not on par with professional methods or may take much longer to achieve. Some products also include trays that need to be moulded through heat to fit your individual mouth and are not a one size fits all approach.

If it is the convenience of at home whitening you are looking for, we recommend asking about our custom made, professional take-home whitening kits.

Indeed, there are many psychological benefits to having white teeth. So why not use it to your advantage?
